‘EAST END MASCULINITIES’

Brand new for 2022, Voicebox & St Margaret’s House are offering an exciting youth theatre project exclusively to young males aged 14-18 in the East End of London.
During the project, young people will attend weekly drama & arts workshops where they will have the opportunity to play, perform, and explore questions, such as: “How does being a man impact my wellbeing?” and “‘What does it mean to be a man in East London?”.

Over the course of the Youth Theatre project, young people will work with industry professionals to create a play. At the end of the project, they will perform the play to friends, family and the local community.

Why get involved in this East End Masculinities?

You will:

Develop key theatre and performance skills.

Work alongside industry professionals in writing,

directing, costume, set, lighting and sound design. 

Engage with your local community. 

Use your creativity. 

Build self-confidence & communication skills.

Try out new things. 

Create a show he is proud of. 

Have fun, make friends and socialise.

FAQ’s:

 

What will the Youth Theatre Project include?

 

  • Drama & arts workshops

  • Devising a play 

  • Performing the play in a professional theatre space

  • Discussing & analysing important issues, such as: Masculinity, Relationships, Mental Health, and Community.

  • Experience working with industry professionals, including: Writers, Performers, and Directors.

 

Who can join? 

 

  • Age 14-18 years old.

  • Identify as male.

  • Attend a school or college in Tower Hamlets, Hackney and the surrounding areas. 

 

When will it happen?

 

  • This will begin on Saturday 23rd July and will run every Saturday between 11am and 1pm, until Saturday 15th October. We will, however, have no sessions on the 13th August and 10th September. 

It is important that the young people who join the project are able to

commit to the majority of the project.

 

Where will it happen?

 

  • Sessions will take place at St. Margaret’s House (21 Old Ford Rd, London E2 9PL) in Bethnal Green

 

How much does it cost?

 

  • Nothing. This project is kindly funded by Arts Council England, and is therefore free to the young people who join.
