KS3-KS5 assembly

Introduction to Masculinity

Our assemblies for KS3, KS4 and KS5 students introduce the idea of gender expectations and explores how these shape boys’ behaviour, relationships, and wellbeing.

With 82% of participants feeling motivated to embody healthy masculinity, these assemblies foster reflection and growth for a balanced understanding of identity and self-expression.

We offer two different age-appropriate versions of the Introduction to Masculinity assembly, one for KS3 and KS4, and one for KS5.

KS3 & KS4

By the end of this assembly, students will be able to:

  • Understand what gender stereotypes are, and how expectations for boys and girls are shaped by culture,
    environment, and social pressures.

  • Recognise common expectations placed on boys and men, and how these can affect behaviour, relationships, and mental health.

  • Understand that gender norms are not fixed, and can change over time.

  • Explore the impact of rigid ideas about masculinity, including through real-life scenarios and discussion.

  • Recognise the difference between unhealthy and healthy expressions of masculinity, understanding that masculinity itself is not the problem.

  • Reflect on how positive masculinity might look in practice, including respect, openness, equality, and supporting others.

KS5

By the end of this assembly, students will be able to:

  • Understand what gender expectations are and how they influence boys, girls, and those who do not fit traditional
    categories.

  • Recognise common stereotypes about men and women, and explore how these ideas develop and change over
    time.

  • Explore how gender norms are shaped by culture, environment, and media, including the role of social media.

  • Reflect on the pressures boys may feel to hide emotion, seek status, or “act like a man”, and the impact this can have on wellbeing and relationships.

  • Consider how rethinking gender expectations can support healthier relationships, authenticity, and equality.

  • Reflect on their own values and the kind of person they want to be.
    want to be.
